Background of the Study
The quality of pediatric care is heavily influenced by the work environment of healthcare providers, including nurses. A positive work environment is essential for enhancing job satisfaction, reducing stress, and improving the overall quality of care provided to patients, particularly in pediatric settings (Ogunyemi et al., 2023). In Kebbi State, where healthcare infrastructure is often underdeveloped and resources are limited, nurses face various challenges, such as inadequate staffing, poor working conditions, and limited access to medical supplies. These challenges can impact not only the nurses’ well-being but also the quality of care they are able to provide to pediatric patients.
Studies have shown that a supportive work environment, with proper staffing levels, adequate resources, and a culture of teamwork, leads to better healthcare outcomes and higher satisfaction for both patients and healthcare providers (Adewale et al., 2024). This study will explore how the work environment of nurses in Kebbi State influences the quality of pediatric care and provide insights into the factors that could be improved to enhance care delivery.
Statement of the Problem
Nurses in Kebbi State work under challenging conditions that may affect their ability to deliver high-quality pediatric care. Poor work environments can lead to burnout, job dissatisfaction, and compromised care for pediatric patients. The study will examine the relationship between nurses' work environments and the quality of pediatric care in order to identify areas for improvement.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the influence of nurses’ work environment on the quality of pediatric care in Kebbi State.
To identify the factors in the work environment that contribute to or hinder the provision of quality pediatric care.
To propose strategies to improve the work environment for nurses and, by extension, the quality of pediatric care in Kebbi State.
Research Questions
How does the work environment of nurses in Kebbi State influence the quality of pediatric care?
What are the key factors in the work environment that affect the delivery of pediatric care in Kebbi State?
What improvements can be made to the work environment to enhance the quality of pediatric care in Kebbi State?
Research Hypotheses
A poor work environment negatively impacts the quality of pediatric care provided by nurses in Kebbi State.
Nurses’ job satisfaction and the quality of pediatric care are positively correlated with improvements in the work environment.
Improved working conditions for nurses will lead to better pediatric care outcomes in Kebbi State.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on nurses working in pediatric wards and healthcare settings in Kebbi State. Data will be collected through surveys, interviews, and direct observations of the work environment. Limitations include the potential for response bias and the difficulty of capturing all environmental factors that may influence care.
